BEIJING, Feb. 2 (Xinhua) -- A 4.8-magnitude earthquake jolted the sea off Hualien in Taiwan's east coast at 11:39 a.m. Saturday (Beijing Time), according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.
The epicenter, with a depth of 8 km, was monitored at about 23.8 degrees north latitude and 122.0 degrees east longitude, the center said in a statement.
Taiwan's meteorological authority put the quake at 5.5 magnitude and monitored the epicenter with a depth of 16.9 km.
