People who buy products from online shopping platforms are facing a security threat that could cause them to be robbed at home, cheated by delivery agents and buy products from vendors who have falsely inflated their sales record.
The threat involves the leaking of a buyer's personal information contained on a parcel's weigh bill, reported the Shanghai-based National Business Daily Wednesday.
With information from the original weigh bill, a package can be forged. It suggested that thieves can disguise themselves at couriers and under the pretext of delivering a package get recipients to their door and then rob them.
The paper reported that recipients' information is for sale on websites such as danhao8.com and dan114.com. Dan114.com offered to sell weigh bill information for up to 1 yuan ($0.16).
The website said the information is from several major courier companies.
