“Peace Ark” hospital ship leaves Brunei after ADMM-Plus joint exercise

BEIJING, June 24 (ChinaMil) -- The "Peace Ark" hospital ship of the Navy of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLAN) wrapped up its six-day-long visit to Brunei and left Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of the State of Brunei Darussalam, on June 21 for Maldives, the second stop of its medical service mission tour.

During its stay in Brunei, the "Peace Ark" hospital ship made physical examination for 101 people, conducted out-patient treatments for 847 persons/times and auxiliary examinations such as electrocardiogram (ECG) examination and type-B ultrasonic examination for 420 persons/times, and received nearly 1,400 visitors/times.

Apart from providing medical service to local people, the Chinese naval hospital ship participated in the Humanitarian Assistance, Disaster Relief & Military Medicine Joint Exercise under the mechanism of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting Plus held in Brunei from June 17 to 20. In the exercise, the hospital ship received 5 simulated "wounded soldiers" of the Brunei side and completed all the exercise subjects with them.

The Chinese military medical workers on the "Peace Ark" hospital ship were also active in carrying out multi-lateral and bilateral military medicine exchanges with their foreign peers during the joint exercise. They hosted a brainstorm attended by 37 military medical workers from 8 countries including Russia, Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Australia. Thirty-six medical workers in 4 batches from the "Peace Ark" hospital ship visited the ships of the United States and Singapore, the medical teams of India and Malaysia.

The U.S. military medical delegation was invited twice to the "Peace Ark" hospital ship to communicate with the Chinese military medical workers on the topics of humanitarian medical rescue and traditional Chinese medicine treatment.

The "Peace Ark" hospital ship is scheduled to arrive in Maldives at the end of this month.
