Hong Kong stocks tumble 2.41 pct along with external markets

HONG KONG, Nov. 8 (Xinhua) -- Hong Kong stocks ended lower on Thursday, tracking losses on Wall Street overnight.

The benchmark Hang Seng index closed down 532.94 points, or 2.41 percent, to end at 21,566.91 points, after trading between a day low of 21,555.75 and a day high of 21,871.85 points. Turnover totaled 72.66 billion HK dollars (about 9.38 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index lost 286.21 points, or 2.65 percent, to close at 10,527.13.

All four sub-indices lost ground, with the Finance losing the most by 2.53 percent, followed by the Commerce & Industry 2.47 percent, the Properties 2.19 percent and the Utilities 1.42 percent.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, lost 2.73 percent to close at 74.9 HK dollars, and its local unit Hang Seng Bank went down 1.34 percent at 117.9 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, another Hong Kong's major bank, fell 1.52 percent to 29.2 HK dollars.
