WASHINGTON, March 25 (Xinhua) -- A man in the U.S. state of New Jersey validated his lottery ticket Monday to win the fourth largest Powerball jackpot of 338 million U.S. dollars, local media reported.
Pedro Quezada, 44, ran his winning ticket through a lottery machine inside the Eagle Liquors store in Passaic on Monday afternoon as several local reporters watched.
The New Jersey Lottery confirmed that the winning ticket was validated. Quezada was expected to get a lump sum payout of 221 million dollars, or about 152 million dollars after taxes.
Quezada, an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, said that he planned to help his family with the money.
Quezada and his wife live in a three-story brick apartment building in Passaic, about 24 km northwest of New York.
The winning numbers drawn Saturday were 17, 29, 31, 52, 53 and Powerball 31. Powerball is played in 42 U.S. states, Washington D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The chance of matching all five numbers and the Powerball number is about 1 in 175 million.
