A 36-year-old man who was allegedly drunk when he struck and killed a college student while driving on a campus in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region said he didn’t know about the accident until he was tracked down by police.
The man has been detained by police, according to the traffic management department of Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Modern Life Daily reported on Monday.
The male student was a sophomore majoring in logistics management at Guangxi University for Nationalities, the report said.
The student was riding his bike on Saturday night when he was struck from behind.
Witnesses said the car stopped for a few seconds, and then sped away.
Police learned the driver was a relative of a teacher working at Guangxi University for Nationalities.
The driver said he didn't realize he had hit the student because his stereo was turned up, he was speeding and under the influence of alcohol.
The driver learned about the accident when a campus security officer went to his home to ask about the accident, the report said.
