The third biggest lottery winner on the Chinese mainland donated 10 million yuan (US$1.6 million) of his 260-million-yuan jackpot to charity yesterday in Chengdu, capital of southwestern Sichuan Province.

The middle-aged man wore a panda mask over his face to claim his money and paid about 50 million yuan in windfall tax. His net award was approximately 200 million yuan, Chengdu Evening Post reported.

The unidentified man donated the money for needy children and lonely elders in his native Nanjiang County in Sichuan. He is the fourth biggest donor among Chinese lottery winners, the paper said.

He bought 50 Union Lotto tickets with 100 yuan in Bazhong, Sichuan Province and one ticket has the wining number, the local welfare center said.

China's biggest lottery winner emerged last June in Zhejiang Province when a man won a record 514 million yuan. The unnamed man was also the biggest donor among lottery winners and gave 20 million yuan to charity.
