Afghan forces kill 14 Taliban including group commander

KABUL, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces targeted Taliban hideouts and killed 14 militants including a group commander in the eastern Laghman province 90 km east of the Afghan capital the Kabul city on Wednesday, Interior Ministry said.

"The security forces involving police and army targeted Taliban rebels in Gularam and Katasng villages outside provincial capital Mehterlam today during which 14 armed militants including their commander Qari Almas have been killed," the statement asserted.

Qari Almas was involved in organizing anti-government activities in Mehterlam city and adjoining areas, the statement said, adding Almas elimination is major setback to the militants operating in Laghman province.

Taliban militants have yet to make comment.
