In order to let the placed drug rehab patients get rid of drugs sooner and walk on a path of becoming rich through labor, the aid and assistance team of Xiaoguan Riverside Coal Mine adopted appointed visits, discussions, interviews, collective lectures and other methods to communicate with the addicts to let them know the harm of drugs on families and the society. Meanwhile, the Mine also adopted other approaches such as assistance in skill training, assistance by specific persons, and incentive systems to help the drug addicts regain the confidence in becoming a normal person.

At 10 a.m. on July 29, 2012, Sunshine Hongxin Industrial Co., Ltd., located in Chengguan Town in Pan County was officially inaugurated in a burst of crackling firecrackers. On that day, 48 drug rehabilitation persons and a released person from the labor camp became full-time employee of the company. Walked into the factory, one can see the bright and spacious canteen, staff dormitory, counseling room, and skill training room. During breaks, the drug rehabilitation persons can play chess and poker in the lounge, and live a completely normal life.

The impetus effect of typical cases: Let the sun shine on all drug rehabilitation persons

"I came here to work because there is no discrimination. Everyone is equal. It lets us find a feeling of ‘home’," said Li Daoyong, who was placed in “Sunshine Hongxin Industrial Co., Ltd.” for work.

Li Daoyong is 37 years old now. He had been relying on a small business to support himself since 2007 when he was released from the drug treatment center. He led a fairly good life, but what troubled him most were the discriminative looks from neighbors and relatives. A few months ago, the staff members from Chengguan town government and the community visited him and explained to him about the “Sunshine Project”. He immediately signed in. So far, Li Daoyong has worked in the company from more than half a month and regained confidence here.

Ren Lijiang is a drug rehabilitation person from Xiaoguan Village, Hongguo Town, Pan County. He is in a cheerful mode recently because of the consecutive good news: finally having a son at the old age; having built a new house; and receiving commend from work. In 1990, the 30-year-old Ren Lijiang experienced a car accident while working at a place away from home. Not seriously injured, he joined the on-site rescue team and helped carrying the seriously injured people and the remains of those killed. “After attending the rescue and returning home, I sank to the ground and was unconscious for a long time. My father, who smoked opium, let me suck a few mouthfuls every day. Gradually I also became addicted to opium.” Ren Lijiang told us the process he got affected by opium. “At that time, the people in our village always kept away from me like seeing a ghost because they were afraid that I would harm them.” In 2003, Ren Lijiang was sent by the local public security organs to the compulsory drug treatment center. In 2004, he was released from the center and worked part-time jobs everywhere as a plasterer.
