Lifting US' veil of 'peace defender' (2)

(People's Daily Online)

07:54, December 19, 2012

While reducing its military spending and global military presence, the United States has increased military presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Moreover, the U.S. president and senior officials have made frequent visits to the region. This series of moves have assured its allies in the region.

Encouraged by the United States, the Philippines made several failed attempts to challenge China’s sovereignty over Huangyan Island, and even tried to win over Japan, which once brutalized the Philippine people. The United States is glad to see this, and has continued to take advantage of them.

The U.S. government has said that it does not take a position on the Diaoyu Islands dispute between China and Japan. However, senior U.S. officials such as Hillary Clinton and Leon Panetta have made contradictory remarks in this regard. They said in China that they would not take a position on the dispute, but publicly stated in Japan that the fifth article of Japan-U.S. Security Treaty is applicable to the Diaoyu Islands. The U.S. Senate has also stated that the Diaoyu Islands issue is covered by the fifth article of the treaty.

The United States is a complete destroyer of peace under the veil of “maintaining global stability.”
