2012: A year to remember

(People's Daily Online)

16:42, December 18, 2012

It is a year in history that will make you laugh at the panic buying of candles triggered by the rumor of "doomsday." In the year, you will think of a Chinese writer who wins Nobel Prize for Literature.

It is 2012 - a year worth remembering, for China and for the world.

Due date of "Mayan prophecy" and year of general elections

In 2011, people were generally concerned about the "Mayan prophecy" and changes of regimes. However, 2012 is not the end of the world, instead, it ushers in the new look.

The prophecy of 2012 not only led to production of a large number of films and television programs and hot topics but also impacted people's lives. The panic buying of candles, matchsticks and the tickets of "Noah's Ark" are not jokes because people cherish lives. Therefore, it is an important task to make a clear explanation about the rumors.

In 2012, the sun will not stop rising and the leaders of major powers have also experienced campaigning. People will remember the apology made by presidential candidate of U.S. Republican Party Mitt Romney saying that he was impossible to win the support of 47 percent of the voters because they do not pay personal income tax. In the end, Romney was out and Barack Obama stayed for another four years of presidency.

In the same week of U.S. presidential election, the 18th CPC National Congress was convened in China, finishing a smooth leadership transition. Newly appointed General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee Xi Jinping has made three speeches, respectively mentioning "the people," "the Chinese Dream" and "the rule by Constitution," and deepened the reform and opening up in subsequent inspection in Guangdong, displaying new look.

In 2012, Putin and Medvedev changed over, impressing the world profoundly, Nicolas Sarkozy had a small sense of loss due to failure in general election of France. Hugo Chavez in illness was reelected as Venezuelan President and the top leader of the DPRK Kim Jong-un born in 1980s drew attention of the world.

Whoever has come to power, people will still need stability and the world will still want peace.
