Hong Kong stocks close 0.28 pct lower (3)

As for local developers, Hang Lung Properties gained 0.55 percent to 27.65 HK dollars. Henderson Land, one of the major developers in Hong Kong, went down 0.09 percent to 54.95 HK dollars. Cheung Kong Holding, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, fell 0.09 percent to 115.5 HK dollars.

China's top refiner Sinopec lost 0.73 percent to 8.22 HK dollars. PetroChina, the country's largest oil and gas producer, went up 0.19 percent to 10.56 HK dollars.

Tingyi was the best-performing blue chip in the day, with its shares rising 2.22 percent to 23 HK dollars.

China Mer Hldgs was the worst-performing blue chip in the day, with its shares falling 5.21 percent to 24.55 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars)
