Hong Kong stocks close 0.28 pct lower (2)

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, lost 1.35 percent to close at 76.7 HK dollars, while its local unit Hang Seng Bank went up 0.08 percent at 119.1 HK dollars. Bank of East Asia, another Hong Kong's major bank, rose 0.34 percent to 29.55 HK dollars.

Mainland-based financial stocks ended mixed. China Construction Bank, the country's second largest bank which accounts for the third largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, added 0.34 percent to 5.92 HK dollars. ICBC, the world's largest bank by market value, fell 0.58 percent to 5.15 HK dollars. Bank of Communications, China's fifth biggest lender measured by assets, moved down 0.36 percent to 5.61 HK dollars. Bank of China rose 0.31 percent to 3. 23 HK dollars.
