Xi's special envoy attends presidential handover ceremony in Peru
LIMA, July 29 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping's special envoy Yin Hejun attended the presidential handover ceremony of Peru in Lima on Tuesday at the invitation of the Peruvian government.
Yin, China's minister of science and technology, met with Peruvian President-elect Keiko Fujimori on Monday.
Yin conveyed President Xi's warm greetings and best wishes to Fujimori.
China's ties with Peru have long been at the forefront of its relations with Latin American countries, Yin said, noting that China has remained Peru's largest trading partner and top export market for 12 consecutive years.
The Chancay Port, a landmark project of high-quality Belt and Road cooperation between the two countries, has achieved remarkable progress, he said.
Noting that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, Yin said China stands ready to work with the new Peruvian government for new achievements in bilateral relations.
Fujimori asked Yin to convey her sincere greetings to President Xi and expressed her heartfelt appreciation for Xi's decision to send a high-level delegation to attend her inauguration ceremony.
Peru attaches great importance to developing relations with China, firmly adheres to the one-China principle, and highly appreciates the important role of Chinese investments in Peru's economic and social development, she said.
Peru is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various fields and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations, Fujimori said.
