Yuxian paper-cutting, a traditional folk craft of Yuxian county, Hebei Province, originated during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
Paper cutters stopped using scissors and started using knives toward the end of the Qing Dynasty (1636-1912) as a unique artistic style evolved in composition, molding and coloring.
In 2006 the craft, including its design, binding, airtightness, carving and dyeing processes, was inscribed onto the first list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
