China plans to restructure disciplines, majors at universities
BEIJING, April 4 (Xinhua) -- China will adjust the composition of about 20 percent of the disciplines and majors at its higher education institutions, replacing outdated disciplines with new ones that keep abreast with new technologies, emerging sectors and new business modes.
By 2025, about 10,000 top-ranking disciplines at the national level will be set up at higher education institutions, according to a reform plan released by the country's education ministry and other authorities.
A batch of special academies with expertise in future technologies, modern industries, high-level public healthcare and engineering will also be established, according to the plan.
The document also calls for accelerated efforts to strengthen some key disciplines, including engineering, medicine, agriculture, liberal arts and basic subjects.
