Chinese vice premier calls for solid preparations for Paris Olympics
BEIJING, Sept. 14 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Sun Chunlan on Wednesday urged the country's athletes to spare no efforts in preparing for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games and to earn new glories for China.
Sun, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during her inspection of the State General Administration of Sport.
With less than two years to go before the 2024 Summer Games open in Paris, Sun noted a pressing schedule and huge task for the Chinese athletes, calling for a greater sense of responsibility and urgency.
Sun stressed that all teams should keep confident and cool minded in the build-up to the 2024 Games, fully analyze the situation and set up an open, fair and just scheme for talent recruitment to improve their overall competitiveness.
All teams should draw experience from advanced training regimes based on the features of each sport, continue to adopt effective methods such as endurance training and give leverage to technology, she added.
Sun expressed her hopes that China could consolidate its position in traditionally strong sports and enhance its competence in team events like soccer, basketball and volleyball, as well as athletics and swimming.
Sun also emphasized China's zero-tolerance stance on doping to ensure clean sports.
