Ten Q&As on Origin Studying of the COVID-19 (8)

(People's Daily Online) 09:43, August 04, 2021

Q: How many countries stand with China to oppose the politicizing of origins study?

A: Up until now, nearly 60 countries sent letters to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, stressing that the origins study, as a scientific issue, should be conducted by scientists around the world instead of being politicized, and the joint study report released by the WHO should be upheld and serve as the base and guide for the next phase origins study.

Saying no to political manipulation, rejection of science and distortion of facts by a handful of countries, an increasing number of countries are voicing overwhelming support for justice. This fully reflects where justice lies and what the shared aspiration of the international community is. It fully demonstrates that those who uphold impartiality and objectivity, and champion fairness and justice are in the majority.

COVID-19 needs origin-tracing, and so does the political virus. It seems that the U.S. is returning to the WHO not for the purpose of focusing on joint international fight against the pandemic, but to use the WHO platform to continue spreading political viruses. China, as an independent and sovereign country, will not and cannot accept any work plan that is not earnest about finding the virus, but designed to discredit China.

We urge the small group of countries including the United States to stop politicizing the issue of origins tracing, stop using this issue to scapegoat others and shirk its own responsibility, stop deliberately undermining international cooperation on global origins study. They should adopt a truly responsible and scientific attitude, and work with the international community to make due contributions to defeating the virus and protecting people’s health and well-being.
