Ten Q&As on Origin Studying of the COVID-19 (7)
Q: The United States has expressed its deep disappointment at China’s rejection of the WHO second-phase origins study work plan and said that China’s position is both “irresponsible and dangerous”. What is your response to that?
A: The slander and denigration against China by some individuals in the US are disregarding common sense and defying science. China categorically rejects that.
In face of the sudden onslaught of COVID-19, China made decisive victory in the battle against the epidemic in approximately three months. In addition to taking the lead in bringing the epidemic under control at home, China also provided more than 300 billion masks, 3.7 billion protective gears, 4.8 billion testing kits and other anti-epidemic supplies to more than 200 countries and regions, and over 600 million doses of vaccines to other countries. China has made an important contribution to the global fight against the disease.
However, for quite some time, a handful of countries, led by the US, have resorted to stigmatization, putting a geographical label on the virus and politicizing the origins study. They blatantly disregard the achievements scientists made together and turn a blind eye to science and truth for their own selfish interests. Furthermore, they publicly advocate intelligence-led origins study and suppress and threaten experts and scholars who are making an objective and rational voice. They even keep slandering and discrediting China, ignoring science and facts, in an attempt to shift their own responsibility for their poor response to the pandemic. These actions have seriously disrupted and undermined international cooperation in global origins study, created great difficulties and obstacles for countries to fight the Covid-19 and save lives, and aroused widespread dissatisfaction and opposition in the international community. Such practice is doomed to fail.
