Li Jianing, a medical worker at the Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University who had come to assist Wuhan during the outbreak, will be taking many souvenirs of her special experience here with her as she prepares to leave.

For Li, the certificate of honor issued by the Wuchang Fangcang Hospital is the perfect memento of the work she has done over the last month. “I will never forget all the moments when the doctors tried their best to save lives and the patients fully trusted the doctors,” said Li.

She will also bring back home cards and letters of best wishes from people. One of the cards reads: “Please take care of yourself, virus fighters in white.”

“We never think of ourselves as heroes. We’re just doing our own job,” said Li, adding that she will cherish all these precious souvenirs for her whole life.

Starting from March 17, more than 3,000 medical workers from around China who had come to Wuhan to fight the coronavirus began leaving the city in batches, as the epidemic was gradually brought under control there.

Having assisted 14 temporary hospitals and seven special hospitals for pneumonia, they are now leaving with some very special souvenirs, including commemorative albums signed by other medical workers and work passes from the hospitals.
