The temporary hospital was originally converted from the Wuhan International Conference and Exhibition Center due to a lack of beds in the early stages of the outbreak. Now that the epidemic is gradually being brought under control in Wuhan, big hospitals are able to treat the remaining pneumonia patients, according to Sun Hui, director of the hospital.

By the time the hospital was closed, it had received a total of 1,848 patients, the largest number among the temporary hospitals in Wuhan. While 1,327 patients were discharged from the hospital, the remaining 521 patients, of whom only 57 were severe cases, were transferred to other hospitals in Wuhan in order to receive better treatment.

As the hospital set a high standard for recovered patients to be discharged, none of those released suffered relapses and were sent back to the hospital. In order to be able to check out from the hospital, a patient not only had to reach normal levels in his blood, CT and nucleic acid tests, but also had to be evaluated by experts before they approved his discharge.

None of the medical workers in the hospital was infected with the novel coronavirus. The hospital provided training on virus prevention for every staff member there, including police officers and cleaning staff. The hospital also asked medical workers to supervise prevention work at the hospital to avoid further infection.
