A man infected with coronavirus became an online hit recently for reading Francis Fukuyama’s The Origins of Political Order at a module hospital in the Jianghan District of Wuhan, the Paper reported.
His calmness while facing the virus won high praise from netizens, and even the book’s author retweeted the image of the man reading his book at the coronavirus hospital ward.
The 39-year-old patient, surnamed Fu, is conducting post-doctoral research in the US while teaching in the Florida State University. He was infected with coronavirus while visiting his parents back in Wuhan.
While he thanked the netizens for the attention they paid to him, he hopes people will focus more on the medical workers who have worked hard to fight the disease.
Netizens were also impressed with a female patient surnamed He, who was spotted dancing in the hospital, which shows the sense of optimism amid the pneumonia outbreak, said Sun Hui, manager of the hospital in the Jianghan District.
Since she was admitted to the hospital on Feb. 6, she has remained in very high spirits. She often shares information about her daily life on her social platforms, reads books and sometimes even dances in the hospital to build up her body strength.
“It is a difficult time for everyone, especially for the medical workers,” said He, adding that patients need to stay calm and cooperate with hospital workers to defeat the disease.
