China, France enjoy broad prospects for new energy cooperation

(People's Daily Online)    09:46, December 28, 2019

The Charmont Wind Farm in France holds an open day for French students.

Starting operation in May, 2010, the Charmont Wind Farm in France consists of six turbines with a total installed capacity of 12,000 kilowatts. The project is capable of supplying electricity to about 5,500 local households.

In 2015, the European energy company of China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) acquired the wind farm, taking a strategic step in creating its new energy landscape in France.

Liu Yuguang, deputy general manager of the CGNPC European energy company, said the company has established a close relationship with the local community through hiring local employees and holding open days.

Recently, the company invited 120 primary students from a neighboring city, and its staff members explained wind power to the students, touching on subjects such as how to explore and utilize new energy resources.

As a clean project, the wind farm places great emphasis on reducing noise and visual pollutants, protecting migratory birds, and strengthening safety training. In addition, 78 percent of the company’s employees are local. The company has also maintained and renovated roads and improved facilities for the local community.

Statistics indicated that in the first 11 months of the year, the company generated 2.1 billion kilowatt hours of electricity for the local community, saving 845,000 tons of coal and cutting carbon emissions by 2.1 million tons.

France and China have achieved remarkable results in developing renewable resources, said Sybille Dubois-Fontaine, director-general of Comite France Chine, adding that the French government welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in the new energy sector, and is delighted to see the two sides grow together through cooperation.
