67.5 percent of people often use their mobile phones to scan QR codes in daily life; 30.3 percent occasionally do so, while only 2.3 percent barely use them, according to a recent survey.

A recent survey of 2,000 respondents by China Youth Daily (wenjuan.com) showed that 88.7 percent of respondents pay attention to the security of personal information when scanning codes.

When using QR codes, 67.4 percent of respondents have been forced to pay attention to the public WeChat account of merchants, and 58.2 percent have been required to be authorized to obtain personal information, including picture and WeChat account.

Meanwhile, 67.5 percent of respondents are vigilant about pop-up links after code scanning, and 57.4 percent do not register with an account after code scanning if it is unnecessary, to guard against security risks.

Cui Jia (pseudonym), who lives in Beijing, often uses the code-scanning function on her mobile phone. She believes that it is more convenient to scan the code and order food in restaurants. However, "scanning QR codes involves personal information, so I have to be more cautious," she said.

Cui believes that individuals should avoid providing their mobile phone numbers if it is not necessary and avoid downloading apps they don't need.
