China's first artificial intelligence-based, self-developed simultaneous translation system for court hearings, the intelligent translation system, has officially been launched, according to the Shanghai financial court on Dec. 8, 2019.
It is reported that the intelligent translation system uses the latest artificial intelligence products to achieve real-time translation of more than 20 languages through a variety of channels including voice and text.
According to the court, the system has three functions. First is to serve foreign participants in litigation, eliminate language communication barriers in the trial of cases, and improve the trial efficiency of foreign-related cases.
The second function is to realize the globalization of live trials, which facilitates overseas personnel to follow the trial in real time and enhance their understanding of China's financial justice.
While, the third is to apply this to the reception of foreign affairs, the automatic translation of judgment documents in Chinese and English and other court work scenes.
The intelligent translation system has been put into use at the Shanghai financial court. In a recent trial pertaining to a company bond dispute, the speech of the collegial panel and both parties were automatically identified by the intelligent translation system and translated in real time and then displayed on the screen through embedded English subtitles.
To better convey the latest voice of China's financial justice to the world, Shanghai financial court's official bilingual website presented in both Chinese and English will open a translation window for live court proceedings, showing Chinese and foreign Internet users the court proceedings that are automatically translated through the intelligent translation system.
