As the first newly built competition venue for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games, Shougang Ski Jumping Platform will host its first event 2019 Air+Style on Dec. 12.

As the world's first permanent ski jumping course, the Shougang Ski Jumping Platform will host the first event, 2019 Air+Style which is estimated to attract more than 6,000 spectators. Meanwhile, four gold medals will be awarded here during Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games.

The platform is composed of a starting area, a take-off area, a landing slope and a terminal area. It will be used as a playing field for freestyle aerial acrobatics as well as the training ground for the national team; it can also host summer events such as grass skiing in the future, according to a staff member from the project coordination department.

The main structure of the Ski-Jumping Platform is 164 meters long. The highest point is 60 meters and the starting point is 48 meters high from the ground. A special snow grooming tractor is used to groom the snow on the slope all the way up to the highest point.

In addition to laying the snow, the process of making and transporting snow is also arduous. The amount of snow that was used during the entire competition amounted to 6,000 cubic meters, reported Wang Gang, deputy secretary general of the organizing committee of Air+Style.

Due to water restrictions, electricity resources and site limitations, Shougang park cannot produce snow for now, and all the snow must be shipped from Fangshan District in the southwest of Beijing, said Wang, adding that 44 large transporters were used on the first day to ship the snow.
