An ambulance of a pet hospital based in the city of Chengdu in southwest China’s Sichuan province vaccinated and provided tests for sniffer dogs at a fire control center in Dujiangyan, also in the province, on Nov.21, Chengdu Economic Daily reported on Nov. 22.
The ambulance mainly offers medical care to pets and animals in need of emergency rescue but couldn’t come to the pet hospital timely, according to Du Xiaoqiang, a staff member of the pet hospital.
The pet hospital rolled out the service in May, 2019. According to Du, the most unforgettable case he had dealt with was to pick up a pregnant dog having problems delivering her puppies from her home to the pet hospital and then helping her give birth.
The vehicle, equipped with relevant medical facilities and a life support system, could serve as an operating room for emergency cases.
Yan Pengcheng, a head at the pet hospital, said it cost over 600,000 yuan to buy and equip the ambulance. There are two licensed veterinarians and two veterinary assistants for every on-call case which costs between 500 yuan and 1,000 yuan for the pet owner, he added.
