Chinese animated film Nezha will represent Chinese mainland to bid for Oscar

The Chinese animated film Nezha will represent Chinese mainland to run for the best international film (formerly known as the best foreign language film) during the 92nd Academy Awards in 2020.

Nezha, loosely based on the tale of Nezha, won praise for its moving plot and high-quality visual effects. It has raked in 5 billion yuan (696 million dollars) in mainland box offices, and is only next to the Wolf Warriors Ⅱ.

Oscar officials also released the full list of nominees for the 2020 best international film Oscar, which includes films from every continent except Antarctica. For the first time, films from Ghana, Nigeria and Uzbekistan were shown. Last year, 87 countries and regions took part in the competition, while, this year, the number rose to 93, which set a record.

Among them, the earlier winner of the palme d 'or award – Parasites (South Korea), Dolor y Gloria (Spain), and Les Miserables (France), are competitive cinematographic works.

This year's shortlist will be published on Dec. 16. The number that can be added to the shortlist has risen from 9 to 10. The official list of nominees will be announced on Jan. 13, 2020. The 92nd Academy Awards will be held on Feb. 9, 2020.
