Private study rooms have been gaining popularity in Wuhan, central China's Hubei province, Changjiang Daily Newspaper reported.

These charming study rooms are often open late at night. People have to pay to use them, and they aren't usually cheap.

A lady surnamed Wang works at Ping' an Building on Jianghan Road. She often uses a study room in her work building to prepare for the Certified Public Accountants examination.

"Public libraries close early, coffee shops are noisy, and it's difficult to find a seat in college study rooms, so I come here to focus on learning," Wang said.

Inside the study room, each seat comes with a socket, a lamp and a temporary locker which is separate. In the carefully decorated rest zone, there is a water dispenser, a microwave oven, a printer, tea bags, coffee and snacks.

Covering an area of more than 300 square meters, the study room has 75 seats and is open from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

"We charge by the hour, 9.9 yuan for the first 5 hours, and then at least 6 yuan each hour. We also provide daily, monthly, quarterly and annual booking services, which are cheaper," said the owner, surnamed Cheng.

"Most of my customers are young people preparing for examinations for professional qualification certificates," he said, adding that the seat occupancy rate of his study room is about 80 percent.

Feng Guilin, a researcher with the Hubei Academy of Social Sciences, said private study rooms are now a part of Wuhan's nighttime economy.

Feng also suggested that private study rooms should improve their services by introducing lectures by renowned professionals and reading sessions to encourage reading culture.
