A shipment of container-like smart classrooms developed by a Chinese company will arrive in Egypt soon, bringing smart education to the African country.

The smart classrooms referred to as Pop-up Classrooms were invented by NetDragon Websoft. According to Xiong Li, CEO of the company, the classrooms are similar to building blocks, and it only takes a few hours to set one up.

He disclosed that the Egyptian government is planning to build 265,000 Pop-up Classrooms across the country in the next three years.

Xiong said that developing countries in Africa are constantly improving their infrastructure, yet at the same time lack quality education resources. This situation has led to cooperation opportunities involving the up and coming Chinese digital education industry, he added.

The cost of a Pop-up Classroom stands at around 200,000 yuan ($29,726), while on the other hand it would take millions of yuan to build a traditional smart classroom in a local community, the CEO said.

“This is an opportunity brought about by the Belt and Road construction, and these cost-effective classrooms will reshape the imbalanced allocation of education resources,” Xiong noted.
