An exhibition took place in Hangzhou, capital of east China’s Zhejiang province, to coincide with the 12th World Autism Awareness Day on April 2, Chinanews.com reported.

Over 200 paintings created by children with autism were exhibited and available for purchase. Children often find it easiest to express themselves through art, while people can learn more about autism through their artwork.

The latest statistics indicate that over 10 million people in China are on the spectrum, and that number is on the rise. More than two million of those diagnosed are under the age of 12.

The Zhejiang Provincial Disabled Persons’ Federation will take more action to eliminate discrimination, hoping that children living with autism can integrate into society and enjoy the fruits of economic and social development in the future, said Hong Jinhong, Vice President of the Federation.
