The S1 line of the city railway in Wenzhou, east Chinas Zhejiang province, began trial operations on Jan. 23. The construction of the line incorporated high-speed rail technology with subway train technology, Science and Technology Daily reported on Jan. 25.
With a designed speed of 120 to 160 kilometers per hour, the city railway provides rapid, high-capacity public transportation between the urban center and surrounding towns, said its designers from CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co. Ltd.
The train has a width of 3.3 meters. Its head can withstand collisions from an object running at up to 36 kilometers per hour.
The S1 railway line is 53.5 kilometers long in total, with 34.48 kilometers included in the trial. Chinese provinces and cities such as Zhejiang, Shanghai, Chengdu and Wuhan are also planning to build city railways.
