The first subway car built by CRRC for the city of Boston rolled off the production line at CRRC MA's Springfield factory on Dec. 18, thepaper.cn reported on Dec. 19.
The Chinese railway car manufacturer CRRC said it would produce more cars to run on Boston's Red and Orange lines in the future. The stainless steel cars will have a designed speed of 102 kilometers per hour and a service term of 30 years.
The company disclosed that the completion of the car marks a milestone step towards the delivery of such vehicles to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA).
The Springfield factory of CRRC MA is now building 404 subway cars for MBTA, including 152 cars for the Orange Line and 252 for the Red Line. The factory employs about 220 people from the state.
