A British chemistry professor became an online celebrity in China after he posted a series of videos of himself carrying out live chemistry experiments, with many videos receiving upwards of 15 million views, Beijing Youth Daily reported on Dec. 10.
Professor David G. Evans teaches chemistry at a Beijing-based university as a Special Term Professor, as well as at primary and middle schools in the city. He live-streamed his first chemistry experiment eight months ago and soon attracted nearly a thousand reviews and more than two million followers.
After graduating from the University of Oxford with a degree in medicine, the British professor moved to China, where he has now been teaching for 22 years. He never expected to achieve instant fame thanks to chemistry.

David’s chemistry classes are always full of fun. He broke the dull stereotype that surrounds science subjects, and allows his students to learn about chemistry through experimentation.
Chinese children spend less time doing experiments in the classroom, said David, who hoped that he could do something to popularize science among teens.
The 60-year-old professor has now joined a specialized group for retired college professors who wish to continue their scientific efforts. David said that being around children made him feel young and happy, adding that he hopes he can continue contributing even after retirement.
