The temperature in Mohe, China's northernmost city, dropped to minus 41.1 degrees Celcius on Dec. 4, the lowest so far this winter.

After the local weather bureau issued its first ever red alert for cold weather on Monday, the temperature in Mohe dropped by 22.1 degrees Celcius in just 24 hours.

The weather bureau expects that the temperature will pick up again from Dec. 6.

Mohe is widely believed to be the coldest place in China, as the temperature there falls to as low as minus 52.3 degrees Celcius during the winter.
