Gan Lin, a postdoctoral graduate from China’s prestigious Tsinghua University, recently won the IEEE-CS TCHPC Award for Excellence for Early Career Researchers in High Performance Computing for his outstanding achievements in supercomputing, making him the first Chinese recipient of such an award, China Youth Daily reported on Nov. 30.
Gan was recommended to further his master’s degree at Tsinghua University, and in 2011 started his journey in supercomputing.
During his Ph.D. studies, Gan joined the research and development team for "Sunway Taihu Light," going on to receive the 2016 Gordon Bell Award in High-Performance Computing, a top award in the supercomputing field.

“I've always been lucky,” said Gan Lin, after he received the IEEE award.
Today, Gan works at the National Supercomputing Center in Wuxi, mainly focusing on how to apply supercomputer technology in earthquake prevention and disaster reduction, and says he wants to contribute to China’s chip development.
