The Global Mayors’ Forum, a high-end event for city leaders to discuss pressing urban issues and sustainable development, will kick off in Guangzhou on Dec. 6. The three-day conference has attracted over 40 leaders from six continents, as well as over 400 scholars and experts from around the world.
“The upcoming forum will provide a platform for Chinese cities to communicate and cooperate with their foreign counterparts, while China’s urban development ideas can also be voiced through this event,” said Li Xikui, Secretary General of Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.
First established in 2005, the forum is a stage for global urban decision makers and stakeholders to exchange insights and share their efforts. Cities around the globe will be provided chances to cooperate in the areas of urban development, economy and culture.
Echoing Li, Chen Zhiying, deputy mayor of Guangzhou, further noted that the forum would focus on global openness and innovation, calling for international cooperation and win-win solutions for cities around the world.
In addition to the forum, the 2018 Urban Innovation Conference and the 4th Edition of Guangzhou Award will also be hosted in Guangzhou during the same period, with five innovative cities being selected and rewarded for their unique sustainable development methods.
