China, Brunei hold media conference in Bandar Seri Begawan

Media from both China and Brunei discussed how to deepen exchanges and cooperation in Bandar Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei, on Nov. 15.

China and Brunei are neighbors, facing each other across the sea. The two countries have established strategic cooperation and deepened mutual political trust since the establishment of diplomatic relations, said Guo Weimin, vice minister of China’s State Council Information Office.

Guo said that President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Brunei would advance the China-Brunei relationship into a new historical period, with bright prospects for bilateral cooperation in various fields.

The vice minister stressed that media plays a significant role in enhancing mutual learning and understanding. It’s hoped that media from both countries can strengthen cooperation to cement public opinion.

The General Manager of Borneo Bulletin, an English newspaper in Brunei, introduced the media outlet's current exchanges with Chinese media in information sharing, content exchange, and training of personnel. He also expressed his wish to know China better through deepened media collaboration.

News media from both countries are supposed to tell stories of China-Brunei friendship to fuel the bilateral cooperation between the two countries, said Liu Hui, Director of the External Communication Department of People’s Daily Online.

Chinese people are striving for the Chinese Dream while Brunei is moving toward Vision 2035, said the director of Sin Chew Daily Brunei office. With further interaction and broader coverage of Chinese stories, media from both countries will contribute to the development of both sides.

The conference was hosted by China’s State Council Information Office, with participants from Chinese media including People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, China Central Television, Economic Daily and China Daily, and also local media such as the Borneo Bulletin, Sin Chew Daily Brunei and See Hua Daily News.

Chinese Ambassador to Brunei, Yang Jian, also attended the symposium. All attendees expressed high expectations for President Xi’s visit to Brunei.
