(People's Daily Online)    10:13, November 12, 2018

The six-day China International Import Expo (#CIIE) underway in Shanghai has brought some 10,000 worldwide high-quality products to China, ranging from French fashion handbags and Japanese bluefin tuna to American smart home appliances and German automobiles with wireless charging. These popular items tend to share some key words, such as organic, health-related, and high-end, which are all signs of China’s soaring consumption and lifestyle upgrades and hence great market prospects.

In the food and agricultural products exhibition area, most of the exhibits are labeled as “organic” and “natural.”

“People now prefer to eat healthy foods. This expo exhibited lactobacillus chocolate, natural coconut oil, air-shipped lobsters, and other green products. As a trader, I not only want to buy them but also want to become their loyal consumers,” said Yu Shuang, a staff from a trading company in Sichuan.

In order to meet Chinese consumers demands for high-quality products, one dairy supplier promises that their milk will reach Chinese consumers from New Zealand within three days thanks to trade facilitation.

Medical equipment and health-related products are another highlight at the expo. The world’s latest medical devices, the world’s smallest wireless pacemaker, the first baby-specific NMR instrument, and a 24-hour watch-type blood pressure monitor are all on display in the medical equipment and care exhibition area.

In the auto show area, Audi’s first mass-produced pure electric SUV Audi e-tron, BMW’s wireless charging technology, and the Faurecia smart seat that can relieve driving fatigue, offer a feast of choices for car enthusiasts.

In the area of cosmetic and everyday chemicals, one can customize blend foundations after testing their skin type and print their own exclusive facial masks through 3D printing, as well as choose their favorite lipsticks based on their mood.

“With the upgrade of consumption, people are shifting from price sensitivity to quality pursuit, and they are more inclined to buy high-end, personalized, niche, and service-rich brands and products, which is a huge opportunity for L’Oréal,” said Stéphane Rinderknech, CEO of L’Oréal China.

With the help of this platform, a large number of the latest overseas commodities, services, and technologies have entered China, which can greatly meet the needs of domestic consumption upgrades, especially for quality consumption. Meanwhile, overseas consumption can be brought back to China, which will promote the steady growth of domestic consumption, according to Yi Shaohua, a director of the Institute of Finance and Economics under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences.

In terms of high-end technology, car spot welding robots, ping-pong playing robots, surgical robots, and robots that can do household chores all provide a feast of choices for high-tech enthusiasts.

A total of 777 exhibitors and 1,826 merchants attended the large-scale supply and demand matchmaking and series press conferences held from Nov. 6 to 7, through which, the two sides reached 840 agreements of intent of cooperate in a total of 2,430 sessions, according to a report by ThePaper.cn.
