Thanks to the integration of automated services and live stream platforms, a small village at the foot of Mount Tai in east China’s Shandong province has been crowned the “pancake village,” with daily sales of over 10,000 kilograms, Qilu Evening News reported on Sept. 25.

Nanshanyin village in Taian, Shandong province, has a long history of pancake making, said Li Yong, a leading pancake chef and the inventor of a machine that has sped up pancake production.

Li’s invention not only doubles pancake production, but it also outshines other machines as it can whip up pancakes that taste similar to handmade ones.

It took eight years to trial the machine and develop it from semi-automatic to automatic, and the increasingly popular device has now been patented. Recently, Li received a new order for five machines from northeast China’s Mudanjiang city.

Today, pancakes are the main focus of industry in the village, integrating machine production, cooking, processing, packaging, and sales.

Every day, villagers share their cooking techniques on Douyin and Kuaishou, China’s most popular video messaging applications, boosting sales of both the tasty snacks and equipment.
