Chinese digital payment company Ant Financial is helping to promote mobile payments in Malaysia, bringing convenience to the daily lives of many Malaysians, Xinhua News Agency reported on Aug. 16.

Ant Financial partnered up with Touch’ n Go (TnG), Malaysia’s major payment service provider, to establish a strategic cooperation last year, jointly launching the electronic wallet which was put into operation this May.

The product allows users to pay for their daily expenses, including water and electricity bills, mobile phone payments and tickets via their mobile phone. They can even swipe their QR code to board some subway stations in Kuala Lumpur.

Despite only being a trial operation, the mobile payment option has already won over lots of users in Malaysia.

A 29-year-old local named Farhad noted that having all his payment services included in one electronic wallet is very convenient.

Malaysia has great potential to further develop mobile payment, although the country is still in the early stages of building a cashless society, said Xiong Wuzhen, a technical director of Ant Financial’s international business division.

The director of TnG and Ant Financial’s joint venture also believes that with Chinese technologies, Malaysia is expected to achieve wide application of mobile payment in the near future.
