The 55001 test train left Harbin west station at 6:36 a.m. on July 16, arriving at Jiamusi Station at 9:05, marking the start of trials for the longest high-speed railway in the Alpine Area of China.
The Harbin-Jiamusi railway is located in Heilongjiang Province. The passenger and freight Co-line railway is a highlight construction project in China's long-term railway network plan, and is designed to run at a speed of 200 km/h. The railway passes through two cities and three counties, covering 343 km with 19 stations along the line. The travelling time from Harbin to Jiamusi will be shortened from seven hours to two hours.
The railway is situated in China's Alpine Area which can suffer temperatures of -40 degrees Celsius. The construction unit overcame difficulties, such as high moisture content underground and the complex geographic condition, in order to build a safe railway in the Alpine Area.
