Check out this traditional Yao performance at Lihu Area in Nandan County, Guangxi province. Guangxi is home to the Yao minority, who have lived in the mountainous regions of this and surrounding provinces for thousands of years.
Not only are the government creating tourist areas like this to help keep the Yao minority’s culture alive and allow people to learn about their traditions, but they are also implementing poverty alleviation methods in the area to help locals lead a better life.
Last year, the government began building a resettlement area covering 1,200 mu with the ability to house thousands of people, giving Yao minorities who live in small villages near their farmland the opportunity of a better life.
China plans to stamp out poverty by 2020, and Nandan is doing so by developing industries and new jobs in the area, helping poor workers find new employment in the tourism industry.
