Board game lovers, who still recall the three-year winning streak of AlphaGo, are familiar with AI technology—a type of brain-inspired computing inspired by the information processing mechanisms found in the human brain, and this tech is expected to forever change human society.

Now, it is time for this rising nova to shine. The first International Collegiate Competition for Brain-inspired Computing (ICCBC 2018) is excitedly looking forward to meet college students from all over the world.

The competition, hosted by Tsinghua University, is open for full-time undergraduates and postgraduates. Both individuals and research teams are welcome, and winners can bring home one million yuan ($151,700). According to the host, the most important criteria in the competition are innovation and creativity.

“The competition aims to promote brain-inspired computing research, explore potential application scenarios, and attract more college students to push the edge of this frontier field. Innovative applications at all levels concerning future education reform are encouraged,” said Professor Shi Guangping, Dean of the Brain-Inspired Computing Research Center at Tsinghua University, adding that brain-inspired computing products, once applied, will benefit all of society in the era of intelligence, from mobile smart devices to self driving vehicles.

Open entries are welcome in this competition, referring to new concepts of hardware, software algorithms, and applications. Applications include robots, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), smart wearable devices, natural language processing systems, human-computer interaction systems, and smartphone applications.
