Chinese nurses presenting certificates to their Sierra Leonean counterparts
Local Nurses at Jui China-Sierra Leone Friendship Hospital have benefited from a six-month technical nursing training program from their Chinese counterpart at the hospital.
At the beginning of June, three Chinese nurses of the 19th batch of assistance to the care unit of the Sierra Leone-China medical team, Sister Deng Quanying, Sister Zhang Qiue and Sister Xiang Na successfully completed the six months "one-to-one" nursing teaching program for local nurses.
Shortage of local medical resources, the lack of information, large nursing team, lack of systematic, standardized training, for the most part have proved to be a more difficult challenge to the opportunity to learn about new progress in nursing and nursing new technology, one of the Chinese nurse said. For this reason, she maintained, the 19th batch of medical teams in Sierra Leone creatively formulated the "one-to-one" teaching plan, and selected three local nurses for the teaching program.

The technical training which was offered included but not limited to intravenous fluids, muscle injection , ECG monitoring, infusion pumps, and the use of other technical instruments, the nurses were also trained on how to rescue critically ill patients in emergency situations.
At the end of the training secession the Sierra Leoneans gave the three Chinese teachers big hug and said, "We are very lucky to get this kind of training opportunity from our three Chinese colleagues. We have learned a lot from them”, adding that the training would help them improve on their nursing skills and enhance their professional output. The local nurses asked for similar opportunity in the future.
Since arriving in Sierra Leone at the end of May 2017, the care team of the 19th batch of Chinese Medical Teams to Sierra Leone has been in the local ward for several times to participate in the nursing inspection and on-site teaching of the nursing in complicated cases. “Teaching with a bit of face to face exchange, we are certainly sure of leaving a team of expert nurses behind,” the three Chinese nurses assured.
