Unmanned delivery vehicle seen in Guiyang, southwest China

(People's Daily Online)    14:17, June 15, 2018

An unmanned delivery vehicle was seen working on a college campus in Guiyang, southwest China’s Guizhou province on June 13, Chinanews.com reported.

An engineer debugs the delivery vehicle.

The vehicle carries 6 containers and can bear the weight of up to 100 kilograms. It is able to find its delivery destination and while on the road, it can avoid obstacles and identify traffic signs. After finishing its allocated task, it returns to its starting point.

The delivery vehicle is convenient and safe, as it allows people to pick up their parcels by scanning a QR code or through facial recognition.

The vehicle can greatly improve delivery efficiency. A courier said that working alone, he can deliver 100 parcels a day, but with the help of this vehicle, he can easily double that figure.

A delivery vehicle runs on the campus.

The vehicle was developed by JD.com, a Chinese e-commerce company, who has reportedly been using this creative way to deliver parcels in Chinese universities since 2017.

The company plans to expand this method of vehicle delivery to more than 1,300 JD logistics stations in Chinese universities. In the future, the vehicles will gradually be seen in industrial parks, mature office areas and larger communities.
