China created 13.51 million urban jobs in 2017

By Sun Wenyu (People's Daily Online)    16:13, February 11, 2018

China created 13.51 million jobs in urban areas in 2017, according to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security.

The urban-registered unemployment rate was 3.9% at the end of last year.

It is the fifth consecutive year for China to create more than 13 million jobs, which is a miracle for a country with a population of nearly 1.4 billion people, especially in the new norm of economic slowdown and enhanced structural reform.

“Over 66 million urban jobs have been created over the last five years, and the employment rate of college graduates has been kept over 90 percent,” said Yin Weimin, Minister of Human Resources and Social Security. The country has facilitated the transfer of the rural workforce to urban areas, and settled over 1.1 million employees during the process of cutting capacity, Yin added.

The minister said that the country will further improve its employment policies and release the potential of entrepreneurship-driven employment in 2018.
