China speed: World amazed by railway project completed within 9 hours

(People's Daily Online)    17:06, January 25, 2018

About 1,500 workers finished building a railway for a new train station in less than 9 hours in Longyan City, southeast China’s Fujian Province, showing “China speed” to the world once again.

The workers worked on the construction site of Longyan Railway Station to join three existing railways to a form a new railway linking Nanping and Longyan of the province. The railway will cut the travel time between the two cities to only 1.5 hours from 7 hours after it goes into operation.

Foreign media marveled at the construction speed China has shown to the world.

Daily Mail Online reported: “Now that’s high-speed rail! 1,500 Chinese workers build railway for a new train station in just NINE HOURS.” The report immediately became an online hit and was forwarded over 8,000 times by foreign net users in several hours after it was published.

It was not the first time that the world marveled at “China speed.”

Last year, a video showing Chinese workers demolishing an overpass in just 8 hours attracted worldwide attention. “THAT’s what we call efficiency!” foreign media reported.

Also, during construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the world’s longest cross-sea bridge, Chinese workers tackled a series of engineering challenges and set many world records.

In addition to projects in China, China has also showed the world its speed through projects overseas.

For example, the 472-km Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway, Kenya’s single largest infrastructure project, was built with Chinese assistance and expertise.

From 2013 to 2016, China has been topping the list in number of prizes awarded by the International Federation of Consulting Engineers, known as FIDIC.
