China’s official rail ticket booking website recorded 5.93 billion visits in one hour, the highest since train tickets for the Spring Festival travel rush went on sale on Jan. 3, Xinhua News Agency reported Monday.

The website has been visited 55.67 billion times daily on average, and as many as 81.34 billion times in a single day.

By Monday morning, 23.5 million tickets have been sold to 10.5 million users online.

The call center of Ctrip, one of China’s major tour service providers, has received over 200,000 calls each day. Some of its employees have to answer calls from 100 customers.

According to Zhu Jiansheng, deputy director of the Institute of Computing Technology under China Academy of Railway Sciences, people born in the 1990s accounted for 47.8% of the ticket buyers since the ticketing season for the Spring Festival travel rush began, up 11% year on year.

Zhu’s point was also verified by Ctrip, which said the proportion of post-90 passengers will for the first time exceed 50% on the first day of the travel rush.

The Ctrip statistics showed that post-90s prefer high-speed rail over traditional trains, which were chosen by only less than a quarter of them.
