BGE's Key Technology Wins National Science Award

The National Science and Technology Award Conference in Beijing, capital of China, Jan. 8, 2018.

A key technology on the prevention of underground water pollution in refuse landfills gained China's national science award on January 8 amid the Chinese government's ongoing efforts to protect environment and build ecological civilization.

The key technology and application of pollution prevention and restoration of underground water system in landfills won the second prize of the country's National Award for Science and Technology Progress.

The key technology is jointly developed by institutes including Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences, Tsinghua University and BGE, a high-tech enterprise specialized in environmental technology research and providing systematic anti-pollution solutions.

The technology is among the 271 programs that won the National Award for Natural Science, National Award for Technological Invention and National Award for Science and Technology Progress.

On Jan 8, President Xi Jinping, who is also General Secretary of the Communist Part of China Central Committee, presented the top science award to explosives expert Wang Zeshan and virologist Hou Yunde, showing that the Chinese government attaches great importance to science and technological innovation.

The key technology and application of pollution prevention and restoration of underground water system in landfills integrate multiple technologies including the technology of controlling the originals, the technology of stereoscopic barrier and the technology of enhanced repair.

With a focus on the prevention of originals, control of the process and repair of the end, the technology highlights the systematic, comprehensive and all-progress prevention and repair of underwater pollution in refuse landfills.

With a main thread of accurate identification of underground water pollution in refuse landfills, systematic prevention and decrease of the originals, enhanced repair and application of project, the program has mastered the key technology on systematic prevention and enhanced repair of pollution of underground water in refuse landfills, established a platform for scientific demonstration and industrialization, upgraded China's technology on prevention and control of pollution of underground water in refuse landfills, and pushed forward the development of the industry.

While raising the three-level strategy of "high repair, middle control and low prevention", the technology has issued 15 technological standards, norms and guidelines.

It has pushed forward the implementation of the Plan of National Prevention and Repair of Underground Water. The technology is widely used in refuse landfills, dump site and tailing ponds projects, which is a great achievement of BGE's dedication to scientific innovation and green sustainable remediation.
